Jane is like the first lady of Houston Street, talented yet dependable, with a dash of femininity and the graceful ability to please the people. The accommodating staff, as well as the spacious and bright environs, complement the food, which is ultimately the reason why patrons make repeat visits. Chef/partner Glenn Harris shows off his understanding of the better aspects of contemporary American cuisine in dishes like roasted organic chicken stuffed with foccacia dressing in a merlot-mustard jus and Montauk fluke dressed up with bright tomatoes and sauteed shrimp. Even the towering beefy burger with double smoked bacon and crispy bistro French fries holds muster, and is priced even cheaper on Jane's neighborhood-friendly $12 Sunday nights. But Sunday brunch remains Jane's signature meal. The eclectic, everything-sounds-delicious menu can make choosing just one dish difficult. You might find yourself picking the brioche French toast with creme brulee batter one week only to promise yourself you'll be back next week for the roasted shrimp ranchero. And don't pass on the complimentary "Best Bloody Mary"; drinks are yet another craft this lady does very well. -- Ashley Lederer
